CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Growing, Ohio-based Mexican restaurant chain Condado has an eye on the Queen City as a possible new market for the concept, according to Columbus Business First, a sister publication of CBJ.

Business First talked with founder Joe Kahn about the concept’s plans for expansion following a restaurant opening in its home metro. Charlotte was mentioned as a potential new destination, along with Detroit and other new markets.

The familiarity with the local area comes from Larry Hesler, who joined Condado as president this year after 15 years with City Barbeque Inc., where he was chief operating officer and helped grow the brand to more than 30 units. City Barbeque is also based in the Columbus area, and Charlotte was among that concept’s first markets outside the Midwest.

Condado serves up customizable tacos, with a checklist-type menu similar to what one might find in a sushi restaurant.
