Take a peek inside T-Bones' replacement on Lake Wylie

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Papa Doc’s Shore Club is narrowing in on its opening date in Lake Wylie.

Bottle Cap Group says the restaurant — a replacement to longtime staple T-Bones on the Lake — will host its grand opening this spring. Timing of a soft opening depends on when the restaurant’s liquor license comes through, says Morgan Conroy, marketing director.

The hospitality group — also behind Whiskey Warehouse, All American Pub, Brazwells, Ink N Ivy and Hot Taco — announced plans for a new concept at that lakefront location last November.

“I feel like we’re in a good spot. It’s closer to Charlotte than it ever has been,” says Britton McCorkle, president of Bottle Cap Group, of the lakefront location.

That site at 3990 Charlotte Highway has been a restaurant for close to 50 years, serving first as Hungry Fisherman, before becoming T-Bones.

The space has a new feel with floor-to-ceiling windows, brighter interior and exterior paint colors and broken-down shipping containers providing contrast on the walls. The tiki bar boasts colorful murals. The restaurant has fun touches throughout, such as engines and propellers turned into lights and water skis transformed into benches.

The idea of launching a new seafood-based concept was appealing to McCorkle. One of his earliest ventures was Vinnie’s Raw Bar in Charlotte’s South End.
