CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

It could cost taxpayers up to $80,000 to hire a new city manager for Charlotte.

Three search firms have submitted bids to help replace Curt Walton, who is retiring in December.

The bids range from about $18,000 to $23,000 and max out at around $80,000, plus added expenses.

Councilman Michael Barnes says he was ready to choose a firm last night, but instead the council voted to send the issue to committee.
