Teacher accused of sex with student bonds out of jail

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A judge has ordered a teacher accused of having sex with a student to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Jessica Deck, 28, a science teacher at Sun Valley High School, bonded out of Union County Jail Friday after her arrest on a charge of sex offense the previous day.

Deck, who has worked for Union County Public Schools for two years, was taken into custody Thursday at UCPS's Central Office in Monroe after extensive interviews with detectives.

Investigators said rumors about an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male student launched the investigation earlier this week.

Court documents filed Friday show authorities believe that alleged consensual sexual relationship started as early as September 2013 and lasted until the date of her arrest.

Friday, investigators still refused to confirm if the alleged sexual encounters occurred at Sun Valley High School.

According to court documents, Deck has been ordered to stay away from the alleged victim, as well as school grounds.

Deck has also been previously arrested for DWI and disorderly conduct in Ohio, according to court records.

Channel 9 went to Deck's home on Friday seeking comment about her arrest, but no one answered the door.

Neighbors told Eyewitness News they were shocked to see her mug shot on television.

"I've been knowing her for about a year. Seems real nice," one neighbor said.

Deck will return to Union County court on June 30.
