MATTHEWS, N.C. — A 14-year-old girl called police from a closet as an intruder broke into her Elkins Park Drive home just before noon on Friday.
"She didn't know if he had a weapon," the girl's father said.
Officers nearby on patrol in Matthews responded and spotted the suspect running out of the home’s back door.
They conducted a search of the area and apprehended the perpetrator.
"So he ran out the back and took off, but they caught him," the father said.
Damien Alexander Denny, 17, was arrested for the crime.
