Teenager pleads guilty to robbery, killing of woman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teenager will go to jail for nearly 15 years for robbing and killing a Charlotte mother.

Kayie Shaune Wright pleaded guilty to murdering Catherine Barca last year in east Charlotte.

Investigators said Wright first robbed Barca, and then ran her over with her own car, leaving her to die.

Barca's son said he unknowingly spoke to Wright moments before the murder.

"He was like 'Is that your mom?'" said Tommy Ridings, Barca's son. "And I said, 'Yeah, why?' And he said, 'Oh, you need to go talk to her and love and respect her, because in the end she's the only one you have.’”

Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of the deal.
