Teens learn to recognize signs of human trafficking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Several local groups talked to teens about human trafficking Thursday in Charlotte.

Friday is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and at Florence Crittendon Services, a group that helps at-risk or pregnant young women, teens learned how to recognize key signs of human trafficking.

The staff said young women can be fooled by men they trust.

"There's so many young people who've become prey to human trafficking because to them it simulates what an official relationship is,” said Tammy Ellison.

Representatives spoke from several organizations -- such as Carolinas Medical Centers, Presbyterian Hospital and Safe Alliance.
