Temperatures dip to coldest morning of season Wednesday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A jacket is not an option but a requirement on Wednesday morning as the coldest temperature of the season hits the area.

The low temperature in the morning dropped to 29 degrees.  The record low for Wednesday is 26 degrees.

Snow and fog in the mountains overnight has prompted Avery County Schools to issue a two-hour delay.

The chill on Tuesday proved to be one of the coldest presidential elections ever in Charlotte.  The average temperature was 41 degrees which tied the all-time record on Election Day.

The clouds will stick around for the majority of the day Wednesday, which will only allow a warm-up into the lower 50s.

A few sprinkles can't be ruled out too along with more snowflakes in the mountains.
