Thieves target firefighters' cars at Huntersville fire station

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The Huntersville Fire Department has become the latest victim after a series of break-ins at area fire stations.

Thieves broke into four firefighters' personal vehicles Friday night in the Fire Station 1 parking lot.

Huntersville Fire Department officials told Channel 9 that they believe the incident is related to the thefts from the Charlotte fire stations early in the week. Huntersville and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the thefts.

Firefighters said when they woke up and came outside around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the windows on all their personal vehicles were broken and their cars had been rumaged through.

They said thieves were looking for cellphones, money and other expensive items.

“They’ll wake up in a moment’s notice to go to a 911 call and unfortunately that’s when it seems this happens, while they’re still on,” Bill Suthard with Huntersville Fire Department said.

Officials believe the incidents are connected. No arrests have been made.
