Thousands watch president's speech from convention center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thousands of President Barack Obama's supporters watched his Democratic National Convention speech at Charlotte's convention center.

The opportunity was a consolation for campaign volunteers who earned a ticket to Bank of America stadium, but couldn't go once events there were canceled.

The crowd cheered at large screens set up to watch the speech.

"I think it was considerate that they thought about the people that wanted to go out and see him," supporter Sherika Johnson said. "So I'm glad they were considerate to think about his place."
