A study by AAA shows how deadly it can be to drive when you’re tired.
Researchers found that one in five deadly accidents in the U.S. are the result of drowsy driving.
The new research found that driving on five hours of sleep is like driving drunk. The AAA study found that drivers who miss two to three hours of sleep a day more than quadruple their risk of getting into a crash, compared to drivers who sleep for seven hours.
Researchers said the study might underestimate the risk of fatigued driving because it covered only crashes from 6 a.m. to midnight. Data on accidents in the early morning hours was unavailable.
