Tobacco use rising among high school students

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More high school students are using tobacco, and is being driven in large part by the rising popularity of electronic cigarettes, according to a recent study.

The N.C. Youth Tobacco Survey found more than 31 percent of students in the western region of the state use tobacco, which is up 4.7 percent from 2015.

E-cigarette use is higher than the state average.
