Transformer problem causes 2,500 customers to lose power

MECKLENBURG COUNTY — According to a Duke Energy representative, nearly 2,500 customers in Matthews were without power on Sunday night due to a transformer problem.

Since the outage was reported, power has been restored to all but 62 customers. Crews are working problem and should have power restored to the remaining customers by 10:30 p.m.

The company was unsure if the transformer, which is located near McKee Road, had blown.
