First witness takes stand in trial for man accused of shooting father of 4

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The trial for a suspected gang member accused of shooting and paralyzing a father in Cabarrus County began Monday.

Terrell Thomas is one of two men charged with robbing and shooting Gregory McKee at an Interstate 85 rest stop in 2015.

PAST COVERAGE: 

The first witness, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, took the stand Monday. The prosecution said he's an expert on cellphone technology and records assessment.

Because of the suspected gang ties, the judge has ordered extra security in the courtroom. Anyone attending the trial will have to show an ID or have special permission from the judge.
