Trump, Pence making more campaign stops in NC this week

SALISBURY, N.C. — With only one point separating the race for president among North Carolina voters, campaigns are pulling out all the stops.

Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence spoke to supporters at Catawba College about a variety of issues.

Less than 24 hours after Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton stopped by UNC Charlotte.

Pence told a crowd of about 300 people in Salisbury Monday, "This race is on in North Carolina."

After his speech, in a one-on-one interview, Pence told Eyewitness News anchor Liz Foster there is a reason for focusing on younger voters.

"It's the rising generation here in North Carolina, people my daughter’s age who are going to bear the burden of these failed policies. It's young people that are coming out in the workforce and finding an economy that simply isn't producing the jobs that it once did," Pence said.

A group of about 25 student protestors wore black and stood in silent protest in the crowd. At one point, a group across the street started yelling "Hillary!," but it didn't interrupt the Republican vice presidential nominee for more than a few seconds.

Some college students admit they haven't made up their mind on who to vote for and are glad the candidates are stopping at North Carolina colleges.

"People at universities are entering the job market so I think it's important for them to try to reach out to the younger people," said Catawba College student Chris Averill.

Foster asked Pence what his message is to undecided voters or to voters who don't favor Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. He responded, “Aat the end of the day, it's not just a choice between two people, it's a choice between two futures. In my lifetime, I have never seen a more dramatic choice on policies."

Pence told Channel 9 you can count on him and Trump making more campaign stops in North Carolina over the next 15 days.
