CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers prevented a woman from boarding a plane with a loaded revolver Friday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, officials with the Transportation Security Administration said.
Officials said they found a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver in the woman’s carry-on bag as it was passing through an X-ray machine at Checkpoint B.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers cited the woman for carrying a weapon on airport property, officials said.

Officials said passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked and packed separately from ammunition. Then the firearm must be taken to the airline check-in counter.
This marks the 68th time that a TSA officer has found a firearm being carried by a passenger in 2017, officials said. There were 54 guns seized last year.
