Deputies: 2 arrested on charges linked to Lincoln County explosion

DENVER, N.C. — Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies arrested two people after an explosion Wednesday night in Denver.

Deputies were dispatched to the area after residents on Andrews Point Drive reported a loud explosion that shook their homes.

Deputies searched the area but could not find any persons of interest or the location of the explosion.

Deputies went back to the area and discovered a 12-inch-deep, 19-inch-wide hole in the ground beside the road and processed the scene.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Tim Johnson contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which sent an investigator to assist with the investigation.

During the investigation, officers said they developed a person of interest and went to the person’s home off N. Highway 16 Business and collected evidence related to the explosion.

Both people living at the residence had outstanding warrants.

The blast from the homemade explosive happened on land owned by Gregory Scott Reynolds’ sister.

No damage occurred to any structure.

Reynolds, 54, and Amy Michelle Dove, 42, were charged with one felony count each of malicious use of an incendiary/attempt property injury, manufacturing/possession of a weapon of mass destruction and possession of a controlled substance.

Reynolds was also served an outstanding second-degree trespassing warrant and Dove was served a warrant for failure to appear.

Reynolds is in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $155,000 secured bond while bail for Dove was set at $150,000 secured.

Both Reynolds and Dove are scheduled for a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on Monday.
