UNCC basketball player suspended after arrest, school officials say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A UNC Charlotte basketball player has been suspended indefinitely after he was arrested, the school confirmed Friday.

Najee Garvin, a 6 foot, 7 inch junior forward from Lexington, South Carolina, has been charged with assault on a female, according to police.

The alleged assault happened Thursday afternoon, police say.

Garvin averaged 7.5 points in 29 games last season.

UNCC released this statement:

"UNC Charlotte is aware of the arrest of student-athlete Najee Garvin. Garvin has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities. The university is reviewing the case consistent with its internal procedures. In light of the ongoing investigation, the University will not provide further comments."
