UNCC adjusts parking plans for basketball tournament amid students' complaints

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is adjusting its plans to close several parking lots and three decks this weekend.

Students were being told to move their vehicles because of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament.

The school had originally said it would close two parking lots and three decks starting at 7 a.m. Friday, and starting at 11 a.m., the areas would only be open for event attendees at a cost of $10.

The school said it revised the plan and is now only closing one deck and one lot.

UNCC is hosting the games on behalf of the University of South Carolina. Since Columbia is hosting the men’s tournament this weekend, UNCC is stepping in for USC.

Since parking is always in hot demand, some students raised the possibility of protesting because of the original closures.

UNCC said they made the changes after evaluating ticket sales and the number of expected visitors.
