UNCC student dies after falling from building overnight

CHARLOTTE — A male student at the University of North Carolina Charlotte was found dead early Sunday morning after an apparent fall from Moore Hall, an on-campus residence hall.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to the campus Sunday morning around 9:30 for a death investigation. CMPD and UNCC police are investigating the incident.

Police have not ruled anything out in their investigation yet, including suicide. The student's name has not been released and his family has not been notified yet.

School spokesperson John Bland released a statement Sunday afternoon.

"UNC Charlotte confirms that a male student fell to his death from the seventh floor of Moore Hall in the early hours of March 23. Moore Hall is a 12-floor residence hall.

The student has been identified but the University is not releasing his name pending notification of the student's family by CMPD.

UNC Charlotte Police and CMPD Homicide are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident. Though the investigation is still underway, there appears to be no foul play involved in this incident."
