UNCC students urge city leaders to help address gun violence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UNC Charlotte students are demanding real action. They held a news conference Monday outside of the government center holding city leaders accountable.

Students said they’ve been requesting meetings with city and county leaders for weeks but not all of them have responded.

They‘re hoping to work together to address the rise of gun violence in Charlotte.

Students also addressed last month’s deadly shooting at UNC Charlotte.

Among the speakers, was a student who survived the shooting.

“I do feel motivated, a little angry at elected officials for them not taking any kind of action to address this injustice,” Megan Beach said.

“I understand it and I stand up with them, and they're going to have to have a place to go,” Mayor Vi Lyles said.

The mayor said she scheduled to meet with students Thursday.
