Undocumented immigrants attempt to deliver petition to Sen. Tillis office

RALEIGH, N.C. — One day after lawmakers ended the government shutdown and promised to discuss immigration, dozens of undocumented immigrants protested outside Senator Thom Tillis' office in Raleigh.

The immigrants tried to deliver a petition, but were told they have to mail it instead.

Maria Gonzalez was one of 800,000 people brought to the United States illegally as a child and who are worried about what will happen next.

“Will I go back to a country where I'm not that great at the language, where I don't know everything, where I don't really have family?” Gonzalez said.

The program that protects those undocumented immigrants, DACA, is supposed to expire in March, so lawmakers have a limited amount of time to reach an agreement.
