Union County girl threatened at gunpoint during home invasion

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A teenage girl was threatened with a gun Monday morning when a man forced his way into her family’s Union County home.

The 15-year-old girl, who did not want to be named, was home alone on what is normally a quiet stretch of East Highway 218 when the man showed up at her house and kicked down the door.

“I heard kicking on the door and the guy barged in,” she said.

The girl said she dropped her phone and put her hands up as a man threatened her with a gun and demanded she show him where her family kept prescription pills and jewelry.

She said the man told her to stay in a room with the door closed and left about 10 minutes later, without hurting her.

“I haven’t lived a long life,” she said. “I want to live, so I tried to do everything he said.”

Tony Underwood, of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, said obeying the intruder was the right move.

“If you're fighting someone who has a gun in hand, you know, you don't want to take that chance and be seriously injured. So thankfully, she handled it appropriately and she's here to tell us about it," Underwood said.

Investigators told Channel 9 that they're doing everything they can to find out the man's identity and they have leads that they're pursuing.
