HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. — A U.S. Navy sailor from North Carolina fell overboard a Navy ship on Monday in the Baltic Sea, WLOS reported.
The family of David “Dee” Spearman confirmed Wednesday that he was the man who fell overboard near Helsinki, Finland. He was 19 years old.
Search and rescue efforts have been called off, WLOS reported.
Spearman completed Navy basic training in January 2022 and had been deployed to work aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke.
No other details have been released.
