Victim: Man shot into apartment, striking grandmother, 7-year-old

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Dixon calls it a nightmare, but this crime happened in broad daylight.

Dixon says shortly after 5:30 Saturday morning, someone walked right up to a bedroom window and opened fire. Dixon's 59-year-old mother and 7-year-old niece were in bed.

They were both shot as they slept.

"I just saw all the blood it just scared me to death," says Dixon.

"I just heard the gunshots, five gunshots, and I jumped up and my mom and my niece were screaming and hollering. My mom said I've been shot I've been shot."

Dixon says everyone ran from the bedroom into the hallway and took cover.   She called for help.

Within minutes, Medic and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives arrived at Valley View Apartments.

Dixon's mother and niece were rushed to the hospital.

Police spent hours searching the complex for suspects and clues.

Two days after the crime, we noticed an officer was still posted up just a few feet from Dixon's home.

But Dixon says tonight, she'll still find it difficult to get to sleep.

Dixon's mother was shot in the hand and leg. The bullet went straight through her niece's leg. They're both expected to recover.

Police haven't released any information about a possible suspect.
