Video shows Fort Mill street racing

FORT MILL, SC — A Fort Mill resident sent us home surveillance camera video of two cars racing down her street.

"I was woken up because I could hear this loud, loud roar of engines coming up the road," said Jennifer Rossi.

The video shows the two cars side-by-side as they fly down A.O. Jones Boulevard.

"Easily can lose control. They can come through a house," said Rossi.

And Rossi says this is hardly the first time.

"It's been going on for the 10 years I’ve lived here," she said.

Rossi said while the street racing happens at night, people speed during the day.

"It’s an absolute safety concern," she said. "We have children, adults, that run, walk, bike."

Rossi says she’s reached out to York County and the sheriff’s office multiple times and shared this recent video.

The York County transportation manager told Channel 9 that addressing speeding is not an easy fix. Neighborhood residents were told that a traffic-calming device could be installed, but they’d need a permit, 75 percent of the neighborhood to agree to it, and the residents would have to foot the bill.

Rossi said she’s afraid of what could happen if something more isn’t done.

"It’s beyond frustrating. It really makes you feel like no one cares and that the only time that someone’s going to do something is when someone gets hurt or killed," she offered.

The York County Sheriff’s Office told us they have seen the video and are working to address speeding issues to the to the best of their abilities. They encourage residents to call them immediately if they see any sort of racing in the neighborhood. And, if anyone has any information about the cars in the video, you're asked to contact them at (803) 628-3059.
