Vigil held for slain father

MONROE — On Saturday night, family and friends remembered a young father murdered in Monroe last Friday.

Loved ones gathered at a Union County funeral home in honor of Neco Horn, who was shot and killed outside of a Monroe gas station.

They raised candles and released balloons in memory of the 26-year-old, and those who knew him best prayed for him and the family he leaves behind.

Last Friday, police say Christopher Thomas shot Horne at the convenience store on Franklin Street in Monroe. The shooting was caught on surveillance video. The same night, police arrested Thomas after he led them on a chase that ended with a four-car accident.

It is still unclear what led up to the shooting.

Those who knew and loved Nico, a father of six, are struggling to cope with his death. Some also have a renewed resolve to stop the violence.

Horn's funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Pine Grove East Baptist Church in Marshville.
