Body of missing 85-year-old man with Alzheimer's found near his Chesterfield Co. home

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Officials said the body of a missing 85-year-old man who had Alzheimer's disease was found near his home in Chesterfield County.

Clerow Myers was last seen Sunday, when he reportedly walked away from his home in Ruby around 11 p.m. without a coat or hat.

Myers' body was located off Highway 265, not far from his home and the discovery concluded the third day of a large search.

Volunteers joined Chesterfield County sheriff’s deputies, Department of Natural Resources officers and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Tuesday in the search for Myers.

Deputies said they were determined to find him, especially with the threat of cold temperatures.

Myers' family did not give up hope. His children said Myers is the kind of man for whom they'd do anything for.

"He's everything to us. His brothers, his sisters, his kids. He means the world to us," said Myers' son, Donavan Myers.

Myers' sister, Louise Williams, visited from Charlotte to help find her brother.

"The Alzheimer's has taken a toll on his memory," said Peggy Jean Myers, Clerow's wife of 67 years.

SLED and the Florence County Sheriff's Office used choppers overhead as more than 60 people searched the woods and open fields for days. DNR officers also used sonar technology in the nearby ponds to detect objects underwater.
