Water line break impacts north side of Morganton

MORGANTON, N.C. — A water line break on the north side of town has caused a large drop in water pressure for customers in the area, city officials said Wednesday. Customers on N.C. Highway 18 from Tate Street north to the Chesterfield Community, Vine Arden Road, and all of the City's Caldwell County customers are impacted.

The Town of Drexel is also affected.

Reports of the break started coming in about 3:30 pm. and crews are working to determine the cause.

Contractors trimming trees behind the River Park Apartments on Wedgewood Drive dropped a tree on the water line causing the break.

City Water Resources crews isolated the break to limit the number of customers affected, officials said.

Customers on Rocky Ford Street, Vine Arden Road, and any connecting streets will be affected and will experience low water pressure and discolored water, until the line is repaired.

Workers expected to have the lined repaired in a couple hours.

Customers that have discolored water should avoid using hot water until the water is clear. If there is debris in water, it could damage water heaters.

Any customer that experienced a total loss of water pressure should boil any drinking water for the next 24 hours unless otherwise notified.
