Water main construction in Monroe to cause partial road closure, detours

MONROE, N.C. — Crews in Monroe will be replacing about 1,600 feet of water main to improve service for customers beginning late February and continuing through early April, causing road closures and detours.

Officials with the City of Monroe Water Resources Construction Division said work will begin Monday on Morgan Mill Road between First Street and Purser Avenue. Construction is expected to end April 2, officials said.

Water officials said construction will lead to the following partial road closure and detours:

  • The two westbound lanes of Morgan Mill Road will stay open.
  • The south eastbound lane will remain open but only to drivers accessing businesses on the south side of Morgan Mill Road. It will be closed to through traffic and to drivers not traveling to a business.
  • The turning lane and the north eastbound lane of Morgan Mill Road will be barricaded and closed from First Street to Purser Avenue.

Officials said there may be a short-term interruption to water service during construction of the new water main, and the city will make every effort to let customers know in advance.

Any damaged items will be restored or replaced once work on the water main is completed.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the project is welcome to call the City of Monroe Water Resources Department at 704-282-4601.
