Weather affecting flights in and out of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As travelers checked in at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Saturday, inclement weather, which is expected to hit much of the east coast, is on their minds.

"Am I concerned? Yes,” said Robert Peterkins, a traveler. “I'm looking to get  back to my family because I've been gone for three days.”

Peterkins has a flight that leaves Charlotte late Saturday. He’s flying into New York, which is under a blizzard watch through Wednesday.

“Worst-case scenario is that I'm here tonight and tomorrow because I have to work tomorrow,” Peterkins said.

Airlines like American, Delta and United issued travel alerts for travelers flying in and out of Charlotte, New York, Washington, D.C., and other cities along the East Coast that will see inclement weather this weekend.

Airlines are allowing customers whose flights are impacted to reschedule.

Jeff Neisen experienced weather-related delays before arriving in Charlotte Saturday.

"I was delayed out of New York and missed my connection, so now I'm put on the 4 p.m. flight, so if it gets canceled, I'm not gonna be very happy,” Neison said.

Other travelers flying standby are preparing for what could be a long weekend at the airport.

"It affects me only because I have to fly standby which means if things get canceled, I’m the low man on totem pole, so that means I don't get to travel very easily,” said Ann, who didn’t want to disclose her last name.
