Witness says cars racing before crash that killed 1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, Eyewitness News Department of Transportation cameras captured a crash seconds after it happened.

Troopers said one person was killed and three others had to be taken to the hospital.

Medics described the survivors' injuries as life-threatening.

The accident happened on Interstate 77 northbound between the Remount Road and West Boulevard exits.

A witness told troopers that it looked like the cars were racing one another.

The highway patrol said it is still investigating and charges will be filed.

Investigators cleared the scene around 3:45 a.m.
