Police investigate shots fired in west Charlotte neighborhood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a shooting Friday afternoon in a west Charlotte neighborhood.

Officers responded to Remount and Cowles roads where they found shell casings, but could not locate a victim or gunman.

Witnesses told Channel 9 there had been shootout between two cars on Remount Road but police have not confirmed that information.

Investigators were seen going through a car at the scene. A neighbor said they saw someone jump from a white car and run after shots were fired.

When Channel 9 arrived at the scene, there was a heavy police presence and crime scene tape near a school bus.

Channel 9 asked if shots were fired at the bus. Police said a short time after the shooting, a vehicle backed into a school bus and the driver fled the scene. Officers found the vehicle and detained the driver. Police said the bus was not hit by bullets.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said he bus was coming from Sedgefield Elementary School. District officials said 19 students were on board the bus, but no one was hurt.

Channel 9 has called police to get more information on the investigation.
