Woman accused of vandalizing Salisbury church, causing thousands of dollars in damage

SALISBURY, N.C. — Officials said surveillance cameras around a church in Salisbury captured a woman repeatedly throwing rocks through stained glass windows and spray painting the building.

Caution tape now covers much of the entrance to the Inside the Word of Life Family Worship Center.

Church members showed us the rocks they found this weekend, when a woman reportedly hurled them toward the building.

“It was hurtful,” church member Robin McEntire said. “It was almost personal that something like this happened, because this is my home away from home.”

“We don’t understand why, but I guess things like this happen,” church administrator Virginia Brown said. “Hopefully it can be resolved.”

Outside, there is more vandalism where someone spray painted the word liar on the building.

Diann Jones is charged with several counts of vandalism to real property.

Members told Channel 9 she got into a dispute with a church member and took it out on the congregation, causing thousands of dollars of damage.

Church members said much of the damage was done after Sunday services. They said the incident was captured by four surveillance cameras around the church.

Members told Channel 9 they are praying for Jones, who was locked up under a $6,000 bond.

“We’ve definitely been lifting her up in prayer and wanting to make sure everyone comes and feels safe. We want to come and worship,” Brown said.

Members believe Jones should have to pay for the damage at the church.

She’s scheduled to appear in court early next month.
