Woman charged with attempted murder after stabbing man in York

YORK, S.C. — A man had to be flown to the hospital after being stabbed Wednesday night in York, according to police.

Around 11:45 p.m. police received a 911 call that a person was stabbed at the Cedar Terrace Apartments on East Liberty Street. When officer arrived they found 20-year-old Richard Stewart III lying on his back with a stab wound to his upper chest.

Witnesses told police that Stewart was stabbed by 46-year-old Tammy Hawkins and that she had fled the scene.

Police found Hawkins a short time later on South Pacific Avenue and arrested her.

She has been charged with attempted murder and is in the York City Jail.

Stewart had to be flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and was listed in stable condition Thursday morning.
