BURKE COUNTY, N.C.,None - A woman accused of killing a father and son while driving under the influence is facing new charges.
Amie Jo Skeens fought back tears Wednesday as she was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the head-on crash, which happened last week in Burke County.
Brent Moody and his son, Kevin, were riding a motorcycle when the Highway Patrol says Skeens crossed the center line and hit them.
Channel 9 learned Skeens told investigators she had been clean for three years prior to the fatal accident. The Highway Patrol said it has several witnesses who place her behind the wheel.
The Highway Patrol said the decision to add more charges was made by the district attorney.
Priscilla Moody, who lost her uncle and cousin in the crash, said she supports the decision.
“I think she should get two life sentences,” Moody said. “She took two lives -- two lives we can never see again (or) talk to again. Two of the most wonderful people you could ever meet."
The Highway Patrol said investigators still have not been able to determine where Skeens was prior to the crash. They are also waiting on the toxicology test to come back.
Skeens’ bond was set at $100,000, and she will face a judge on Nov. 7.
