Man accused of killing Rowan County woman during home invasion

EAST SPENCER, N.C. — Police arrested a man accused of forcing his way into a home and killing a 25-year-old woman in Rowan County.

Officials said Witt Darnell Alexander Jr. shot and killed Mirah Turner around 2 a.m. Sunday on North Long Street in East Spencer.

Rowan County deputies tried to save Turner but she died at the scene.

Alexander is in the Rowan County Detention Center with no bond.

Officials said Turner was home with her mother when people tried to enter the home. When Turner tried to close the door, she was struck by gunfire.

Deputies are investigating the case as a homicide.

Officials said they have not identified any other suspects.
