Woman rattled after peeper spotted outside window

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Lori Penland didn't know what was lurking around outside her bedroom window at the Providence Court Apartments late Monday night until Charlotte Mecklenburg police banged on her front door.

Penland was in her bedroom working when a neighbor saw a man standing between some bushes peeping through her blinds.

"It's really affected me in a way I didn't think it would," Penland said.

Ann Griffiths spotted him from her living room. She lives in the building right behind Penland's apartment.

"I could see him looking right up into the window," Griffiths said.

She immediately called police.

They kept her on the phone until detectives arrived.

She said five minutes later the man was still peeping through Penland's window and when police arrived he ran away.

Penland plans to sleep with one eye open until police catch the culprit.

"It makes me feel violated," she said.

Police said the peeper is 6 feet 2 inches tall with scruffy facial hair.

Call police with any information.
