Woman, 67, carjacked in broad daylight in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are searching for two men who carjacked a 67-year-old woman in a shopping center.

Officers responded around 3:30 p.m. Sunday to the Rite-Aid at 8450 Bellhaven Blvd.

Teresa Keeter said she was walking to her Jeep after picking up a prescription when she was attacked by a man in the parking lot.

"I'm 67-years old with arthritis," Keeter said. "He took me and just slung me across the parking lot."

Keeter said the man demanded her keys seconds after she hit the unlock button on her key FAB.

"He just kept saying, 'Give me your keys, give me your keys,'" Keeter said. "I was kicking him but he grabbed my arms and took the keys out of my hand. Then he tossed me onto the pavement."

Keeter said that's when another person appeared and jumped into the front passenger seat of her vehicle. The pair drove off in her white 2013 four-door Jeep Compass.

"I've been using a cane since yesterday," Keeter said. "I got a knot here on my leg, here on my elbow and a big bruise here on my hip."

Keeter said a couple driving into the shopping center witnessed part of the attack and tried to follow the stolen Jeep but the carjackers were driving too fast.

The thieves also stole Keeter's purse which contained her license, credit cards, checkbook and cellphone.

She wants others to be on the lookout for her Jeep.

"I didn't see anything," Keeter said. "I don't know where he was hiding. I don't have a clue. As soon as I opened my Jeep door he was on me."

Keeter said the primary suspect had a sweatshirt draped over his head so that only his face was visible.

She described him as a black male, possibly in his mid to late 30s, with a husky build and black and gray facial hair.

She said the second man had a thin build and wore a Navy blue-colored sweatshirt with the hood pulled tight around his face.

No arrests have been made in the case.
