Woman who accused Kurt Busch of assault charged with bilking military charity

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A woman who accused NASCAR driver Kurt Busch of assault is now accused of stealing from a military charity, officials said.

Patricia Driscoll was indicted Tuesday on federal charges of stealing from a charity, defrauding donors and lying to the Internal Revenue Service about her salary and benefits.

Driscoll, 38, of Ellicott City, Maryland, is charged with two counts each of wire fraud, mail fraud and tax evasion, and one count of attempting to interfere with IRS laws.

Driscoll was the executive director until July 2015 of the Armed Forces Foundation, a nonprofit charity based in Washington, D.C.

Officials said Driscoll falsely reported her commissions and other benefits that she received to the IRS.

She is also accused of taking the foundation’s money for her personal use.

Driscoll is also charged with tax evasion from 2012 and 2013.

After Driscoll accused Busch of assaulting her following their breakup, a Delaware Family Court commissioner granted her request for a protective order requiring Busch to stay away from her, but law enforcement officials said there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Busch.
