STANLEY, N.C. — The Stanley Police Department used the power of social media to find a WWII Navy veteran’s family after his gravesite marker was found in a ditch.
Someone discovered James Henderson’s marker and turned it in to the police department.
Officers posted on Facebook, asking for help. Hours later, someone contacted Henderson’s family about the gravesite marker.
His grandson said the marker is supposed to be at the Evergreen Cemetery in east Charlotte, and he doesn’t know how it ended up in a ditch in Stanley.
The family is working to get it back to its rightful place.
