Memorial Day to start stormy week

CHARLOTTE — Thunderstorms are growing in number from East Tennessee through the Blue Ridge into South Carolina. While a few storms are possible in western North Carolina Sunday, the better chance of rain will come on Memorial Day.

As the viewing area heats up into the low to middle 80s on Memorial Day, more thunderstorms will develop and they will have greater coverage over the area. Severe weather is not expected, but storms could bring heavy downpours and lightning.

This will kick off a stormy week, as showers and storms have the potential to develop every afternoon once the temperature hits the middle 80s.
