NC AG Takes Action Against Nonprofit After Channel 9 Investigation

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — North Carolina's attorney general has taken action against a local nonprofit following a Channel 9 investigation.

Eyewitness News reporter Jim Bradley was the first to investigate the way NACA, which helps people modify their mortgage loans, handled its clients' personal information. Channel 9 found sensitive documents from NACA clients in a Dumpster.

Late Friday, Bradley obtained the settlement from Attorney General Roy Cooper's office. It's signed by NACA CEO Bruce Marks.

NACA has agreed to pay the state $3,000 to settle the investigation and also notify the seven people whose information was shown in videotape Channel 9 provided to the attorney general.

In the agreement, NACA doesn't admit breaking any laws.

It has put new procedures in place to better safeguard client documents.

The state said it has already received the $3,000 payment from NACA.
