MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. —
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said Patti Campbell, 48, drove to the home, exited her car and fired at the 11-year-old as he ran away. The bullet hit him in his right shoulder and exited through his neck, police said.
According to police, Campbell fired two shots at the victim’s brother as he and his mother exited another vehicle, missing him.
Investigators said the victim’s family was able to wrestle the gun from Campbell. She suffered minor injuries. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast was and released Saturday into police custody.
Campbell was charged Monday with two counts of attempted murder and held under a $1 million bond.
Authorities said Campbell knew the victim’s mother but are not sure why she allegedly shot at him.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
The victim is in stable condition.
