BLOWING ROCK, N.C. —

Two volunteer firefighters from Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue died in an accident Sunday along Highway 221 in McDowell County.

Jeremy Bolick, 23, and Tommy Wright, 20, both of Blowing Rock, died in a car crash as they were heading home from training at the McDowell Fire and Rescue College.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said the accident was caused by wet road conditions.

Troopers said Bolick was driving a black Ford Mustang at the time of the crash.

Cynthia Basset, 51, was driving the other car involved in the accident. Her husband, Jeffery Basset, 51, was also in the car. They were both taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment. Police said Jeffery Basset was taken to the ICU and Cynthia Basset was taken into surgery.

All four people were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, police said.
