Catawba County law enforcement officials say a woman is in jail after leading officers in a chase across two counties.
Angela Dale will be facing several charges including a hit and run and resisting an officer.
Officials said it started in Claremont when police pulled over a green Mercedes for stolen tags and took Jason Shook, 30, into custody. Officials said the passenger,Dale, 26, then slid over into the driver seat and took off, dragging one officer and running over another officer's foot. That officer jumped in his car anyway.
"At that time the other suspect took off which ensued this chase this officer spun out right here," said Doug Barrick, city manager of Claremont.
Joseph Troutman lives nearby and said he watched the officer following the green car, then spun out as he was avoiding another driver.
"This gentleman could have just died right here," said Troutman. "I'm hoping they get her. None of these people deserve this."
Officials said the chase continued into Iredell County. At some point, Dale made it back into Catawba County. A man who didn't want to share his name said she struck his dad's truck. He said they followed her and called Highway Patrol.
"We chased her and she brought us to this neighborhood. She took us on the main road and through the neighborhood about three or four times," said the passenger in the red truck.
He said at one point, they had her cornered and she promised to stop.
"We said you need to stop here right now you're going to kill someone and she took off and we chased her again," he said.
The chase ended at a church on 19th Street southwest in Hickory. Officials say that is where Dale ran into the woods. Dogs were used to track her, but they lost her scent somewhere among the trees.
In her first court appearance, Dale asked for a court-appointed attorney and remains locked up under a $42,000 bond.
