3 Injured In Overnight I-85 Accident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Three people were injured in an overnight accident involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 85.

Troopers said a tractor-trailer driver was headed north at about 11 p.m. Wednesday. He changed lanes near Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and didn't see the other drivers in his path, troopers said.

He crashed into another vehicle, causing it to careen off the road and hit a guardrail, troopers said. The vehicle then went back into traffic and was hit by a second tractor-trailer, troopers said.

The first tractor-trailer then struck another vehicle that was traveling next to the vehicle the tractor-trailer had hit first, troopers said. They said that vehicle also hit a guardrail and was pushed back into traffic.

The first tractor-trailer went off the ramp from I-85 to Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and jackknifed into a ditch, troopers said. The ramp was blocked until about 4 a.m. while crews worked to remove the tractor-trailer.

One person was seriously injured, and two others have minor injuries.
