3,200+ DWI Citations Issued In ‘Booze It & Lose It’ Campaign

 

RALEIGH, N.C. —

More than 3,200 DWI citations were issued during the statewide Labor Day “Booze It & Lose It” campaign, which ran Aug. 20 - Sept. 6, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program said Thursday.

In Mecklenburg County, 286 DWI citations were issued, which was the highest number in the state. Mecklenburg was followed by Wake County, with 215, and Robeson County, with 177. (Click here for county-by-county totals.)

State and local law enforcement officers conducted more than 11,180 sobriety checkpoints and dedicated patrols, officials said.

A total of 111,668 traffic and criminal citations were issued statewide, officials said. Of those, officials said there were 8,698 seat belt violations, 1,413 child passenger safety violations, 32,635 speeding violations and 2,163 drug charges.
