88-Year-Old Man Charged In Realty Office Shooting

ROCK HILL, S.C. —

It was less than a mile away from Richard Blow's home that police said he shot a real estate worker Wednesday afternoon in Rock Hill.

There was little comment from his family Wednesday night, but Eyewitness News spoke to one neighbor who lives down the road.

The shooting was at the Coldwell Banker United, a realty firm on Ebeneezer Road.

Police said Blow walked in and started arguing with 68-year-old Jerry O'Neill in the lobby of the business about 2:20 p.m.

Police said the argument was all over deposit money Blow wanted back from an investment property.

Police said after he shot O'Neill in the stomach, he waited for officers in the parking lot. Workers there call the act completely random.

Elizabeth Drake, a neighbor, tried to figure out if the sour economy had any influence on the 88-year-old’s actions.

"It's a hard time and stresses people out and families will be affected by it. His family will be affected by his actions."

Blow's license plate reads "Let me tell you about my grandchildren."

Coldwell spokesperson Kim Cox said workers are understandably shaken up.

"You got Jerry who is just an incredible wonderful person and that makes this random act so heartbreaking," Cox said.

Cox said O’Neill underwent hours of surgery Wednesday night and remains in ICU in critical condition.

Coldwell corporate spokeswoman Kim Cox told several media outlets O'Neil was the broker in charge, which is the equivalent of a manager.

Belk said about 10 other employees were in the office at the time, but only O'Neil was injured.
