Airport Getting Busy; TSA Reminds Fliers Of Changes

The yearly traffic of holiday travelers is beginning to pick up at the airport.

Fog did cause some flight delays early Thursday morning, but things are back on track now.

Officials with the Transportation Security Administration said there are some changes that are new this year since the last Christmas holiday season. Now, when fliers get to the security checkpoint there are three different lanes to choose from.

One lane is for families with small children, one is for frequent travelers and the third is for the casual passenger who doesn’t fly often.

Also new this year, the TSA is using small portable black lights to check IDs and passports.

Security Officer Kevin David said passengers should also review the rules regarding liquids in carry-on luggage.

“(Liquids have) to be in a quart-sized (clear bag), one per passenger and the contents of the (items) has to be 3.4 ounces or less. That's where we get the 3-1-1 -- 3 ounces, one bag, one passenger,” he said.

About 20,000 people will come through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on Thursday, up from about 14,000 on an average day.

Also, 2,000 personnel are coming in from where they have been deployed, using the USO and then flying home.
